Must Have Newborn Items

Welcome to my first blog post!
The purpose of this blog is to share my favorite tips, tricks, and products that have made my life easier so hopefully it will do the same for you!

I am a new mom to a just turned One year old and I have compiled a list of MUST HAVE Newborn items that I could not live without.

1. Double zipper Onesies with Mittens

These are great for quick diaper changes in the middle of the night. My son wore these nearly everyday constantly because they were so easy and they have fold over wrist cuffs to keep him from scratching his face.

2. Sleep Sacks

Every baby is different. My son did not like being swaddled where is arms were restricted. We did use a swaddle for a little while and just let his arms out, but then we found these sleep sacks! He stayed in a sleep sack until he was about 9 months old. This sleep sack is great because is has areas on the chest and sides that are lightly weighted to give them the comfort of being held to help them sleep through the night. I will put both sacks below that we used. The First one we used grows with your baby, it has a chest swaddle strap and removable arm covers for when baby is ready to have their arms free.

This Sleep Sack we transitioned to once he was too long for the first one

IF YOU GET ANYTHING FROM THIS LIST THIS NEXT ONE SHOULD BE IT!
3. Baby Brezza

We got this as a gift and it has been the best thing we have used for our baby! It makes those night time feeds so much easier by making instant bottles with the exact amount you need and at the right temperature! My son is 1 year old and we are still using it every single day! If you don't purchase it yourself at least put it on your registry and make it a must have item! It is worth every penny!!

4. Muslin Burp Cloths

These burp cloths are so soft and absorbent. If you think you have enough burp cloths, buy at least 10 more. We use these constantly even now that our baby is not having issues with spitting up and can essentially feed himself.

5. Aquaphor

We received a huge tub of Aquaphor as a gift and was told it was better than any diaper rash cream. I was told that if I used Aquaphor my baby would never have a diaper rash. I was skeptical, but it is the only thing I have used on his bottom if I saw any signs of bumps or redness and he has never had any diaper rash! There are all different sizes of Aquaphor you can get but this tub is barely to the halfway mark after 1 year of usage.

6. Dr. Browns Small Nipple Bottles

Again every baby is different but my son really took to the Dr Browns bottles versus any other brand. We tried the small nipple version and the larger nipple version. He did much better with the smaller nipple option as the larger nipple base was too much for him and his tiny mouth. Also, because the bottle is a small width that the larger nipple bottles when my son was starting to hold his own bottle this one was much easier for him to handle on his own.

They also have different size options, this is a pack with 8oz bottles and 4oz bottles. We loved the 4oz bottles for when our son was still in the newborn phase and eating 4oz or less.

*Don't forget you will need newborn nipples as these packs typically come with size 2 Nipples*

7. Velcro mittens

We had a hard time with the regular mittens you see in the store as they would slip right off his little hands. These ones from Amazon were perfect! they have a Velcro strap to make them snug on their little wrists so they wouldn't fall off.

8. Ubbi Diaper Pail

This diaper pail takes regular trash bags! It has a sliding door that locks and it keeps the odor in completely!

9. Hot Water Thermos

This is a life saver when you are ready to take baby out of the house for the first time. I was so nervous to take him anywhere for many reasons, but one of them was "how am i going to warm his bottles". This thermos is perfect! We just put on the kettle while we are packing to leave and put the hot water in the thermos and it stays super hot all day!

10. Car Camera

I highly recommend having a car camera versus a mirror to check on baby while driving. With having a camera you can constantly see what baby is doing in real time and you can put the monitor wherever it would be easiest for you to look at is safely. The camera also has night vision so you can still see baby in even pitch black.

11. Nail Trimmer

Yes I was one of those mom's that tried to use nail clippers and failed miserably, we wont talk about it, but these are a God send! They are super gentle and get the job done. My son doesn't even mind getting his nails trimmed at this point when using these.

12. Portable changing pad

This will save you if your baby has a blowout diaper! We keep this by our bed and can grab it quickly to save a huge mess. It is waterproof so it just gets wiped down if things get messy. I would recommend even keeping one in the car for on the go too.

13. Diaper Cady and Cart

We set up an entire baby station on my side of the bed so I had everything I could possibly need within arms reach. I would put all of my baby essentials in the top shelf which held my Cady and then feeding supplies on the 2nd shelf and extra items on the bottom shelf. When I was on maternity leave and was home for 3 months with baby I would wheel this cart around the house depending on where I wanted to spend my day and it was so nice not having to run back to the bedroom to get what I needed. I would also just grab the caddy off of the cart and take it by itself.

14. Drawer Organizers

Baby clothes are Tiny and I found them hard to store in drawers and keep everything organized so I got these drawer organizers and they work great! I have everything sectioned off by type of item (sleepers, short sleeve onesies, long sleeve onesies etc.). There are even small organizers that I would use for socks and mittens.

15. Life Vac Portable Suction Choking Device

The last and most important thing on my list is a Life Vac. I bought the combo pack which comes with 2 Life Vac's, one stays at home and the other is in his diaper bag at all times. Thankfully we have not had to use it yet, but there have been a few times that we thought we might have to. This gives me such piece of mind just having it with us in case my baby were to choke on something.

I hope you have found this helpful. These are all items that I personally use and highly recommend. These would all make great baby shower gifts as well!
